Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris was born October 20, 1964. She is an American politician. She is the first woman to hold the vice president and is the highest ranking female politician in U.S history. A member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. She was re-elected in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for reforms to healthcare and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She was well-known for her direct questions to Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
